Glass Pet Cremation Urns

Keepsakeboxlg_2 One of my favorite choices for a pet urn are urns made of glass. Glass is made from one of the oldest, most primary substances on earth, sand.

In keeping with the old Biblical "ashes to ashes, dust to dust" that is ingrained in all of our minds, glass is transformed sand, made into art. Because of this direct connection to the earth, glass crafted urns make perfect vessels in which to preserve the ashes of our dear loved ones

Pet Loss and Precious Memories

Girlandpuppy If you ever love an animal, there are three days in your life you will always remember...

The first is a day, blessed with happiness, when you bring home your young new friend. You may have spent weeks deciding on a breed. You may have asked numerous opinions of many vets, or done long research in finding a breeder. Or, perhaps in a fleeting moment, you may have just chosen that silly looking mutt in a shelter --- simply because something in its eyes reached your heart. But when you bring that chosen pet home, and watch it explore, and claim its special place in your hall or front room -- and when you feel it brush against you for the first time --- it instills a feeling of pure love you will carry with you through the many years to come.

Our Cats and Dogs Can Teach Us So Much

Words of Wisdom From Our Furry Canine Friends
RoscoelgWhen loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
When it's in your best interest, practice obedience.!
Let others know when they've invaded your territory.
Take naps.
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back in the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout.
Run right back and make friends.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.
Stop when you have had enough.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.

Pet Loss Poem

Istock_000001710895xsmall Although there is much controversy over who actually wrote this poem and when, that doesn't take away from it's eloquence and beauty. These words move me every time that I read them and remind me of God's presence through all of nature.

Based on credible research, I credit Mary E. Frye, 1932.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

Love and Peace,

Colleen

Finding a Reliable, Safe Dog Breeder

Doginboxlg These days it seems that no one, nor any "certifications" can be trusted. We have to be looking out for the welfare of our animals at every turn.

Recently, a Los Angeles pet store, Pets of Bel Air, was accused by the Humane Society of purchasing its "not so cheap" puppies from puppy mills. The store promptly posted a statement on its website explaining that not only were its dogs were purchased from pet breeders approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, but also that it relied on the USDA to inspect the breeders and their premises.

Kim Campbell Thornton, columnist of the Creature Comforts on MSNBC.com dug a little deeper and discovered USDA breeders licenses really don't carry much weight. USDA minimum standards for housing and exercise are essentially bare bones.

Read more in her column on this topic, or click on "Continue reading" below for her "10 Signs of a Good Pet Breeder".

Can You Potty Train Your Cat?!

Catlittersm When I was "20-something", I lived in a small NYC apartment with my diva cat Mira. I was constantly sweeping up around her litter box because there was really only one place to keep it, right near a busy walkway.

That busy walkway was also at the bottom of a pantry that was covered only by a curtain and was right in the kitchen! Not the best thing to smell while you're eating dinner or sipping your morning coffee.

I wish that I would have had the brilliant idea that this "20-something" woman, Rebecca Resacate had, who decided to solve her problem by inventing something brilliant, and now a hot product for cat lovers everywhere.

See for yourself . . .

Good Day!

Pet Loss and Feelings of Guilt

Springbudsm I came across a really valuable article today on CustomPetUrnsBlog. The author of the blog makes her own beautiful pet urns by hand and writes a very heartfelt blog that I like to read regularly. She addresses the subject of "Carrying Guilt if You Feel Responsible for Your Pet's Death". This is such an important subject and one that's not easy to talk about. Her words are so eloquent that I leave it to her to say . . .

Have a lovely day,

Colleen

Dogs and Cars - Keeping Your Dog Safe

Dogincarsm Did you know that more households have pets than have children? Makes sense if you think about it. There is huge coverage for children's carseats, family friendly vehicles and family safe cars, so, why not the same for dogs?

Dr. Marty Becker, Gina Spadafori and Keith Turner and Kim Camptbell Thornton came up with a great idea, reviewing which cars are safest and most user-friendly for dogs! DogCars.com! How brilliant is that?

Three or four times a month they get a wagon, crossover, truck minivan, SUV or other dog-friendly vehicle to drive around in and write about from a dog-lover's point of view.

You can find their reviews at DogCars.com as well in the newspapers through the Pet Connection syndicated feature.

Have a great day!
