Horse Rescue: Horses for Service

Some more inspiring goodies from Daryn Kagan.com.

Girlwithponylg Today's story is about a woman rescuing abused and unwanted horses in Ohio. She bought her first pony at the age of 8 (as did I! Cinnamon!) for $50, sold it to a someone who could provide him with a good home for $100, and put the money in the bank until she found another horse to rescue. She's been rescuing horses ever since. Now she prepares these horses for a life of service as either mounted patrols or special needs services. She will only adopt horses out to homes that already have a horse to ensure that new owners understand what's involved in caring for a horse.

Molly Flanders Pet Memorial

Molly_and_glenn

Mollys_last_day_3I want to dedicate this day to the memory of one the world's darling girls, Molly Flanders.

Molly was a precious white boxer who lived happily in sunny California for almost eleven years, reining over the otherwise all male household of Glenn & Ricardo with such dignity and cuteness.

She Molly_and_ricardowas a wonderful older sister, showing patient with the antics of her two younger brothers, Sam & Rocky, who adored her even while tumbling over her and romping around her. She was the dearest of companions.  You could never get enough Molly, so squeezable; but she accepted all of our hugs and kisses with such sweetness.

My friends, I know that soon the grief will be outweighed by the joy of all the "Molly Memories", but in the mean time, we share the pain of her loss and the huge gap she leaves in our lives.

Bye little girl and thank you for what you brought to the world... joy, laughter & sunshine.

Can a Dog Be Issued A Credit Card?

Yes, you read that question correctly! What is this world coming to?! Well, it looks like crazier things have happened.

I love to read Daryn Kagan's blog daily, it is full of inspiring stories in this very unstable world we all live in. I encourage you all to visit her blog, but this entry I had to share with you directly. It fits right into my commitment to you, my readers, to try to bring some levity to those who are grieving.

I hope it makes you laugh out loud like it did me. But I'll let Daryn tell her own story. It's very entertaining, and it's also a great reminder to us all not to take ourselves too seriously!

Have a great day!

Is it Possible to Delay Our Grief?

I read this interesting and very valuable article today about "Delayed Grief" by grief counselor Marty Tousley, for whom I have so much respect. This is such an important subject, and one that I've never thought of before, or maybe not exactly in these terms.

AnnaVaccuma - This is Not a Lassie Story

Annazm Oh Dear, where have I been?

Well, a week ago Sunday I came home around 1:00 AM and found a beautiful, enthusiastic young dog with floppy ears roaming from can to can looking for garbage.  Of course I got that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach and looked up and down the street for signs of a relative with a leash in hand.  Not a soul to be seen.

You know I couldn't just ignore this sweet thing that was begging for attention, and of course food, so I brought her onto my porch.  I sat with her and gave lots of kisses, belly rubs and words of affection; made a big comfy and warm bed for her (it was a cold drizzly night), brought out some food (didn't know her well enough to bring her in with my other animals); and then went inside to tend to my own.

Some Healing Words for Grieving

Autumnwoodslg_2 I came across these beautiful words to share with you this morning, by renowned Buddhist teacher Jack Kornfield, and found them to be so comforting:

The grief we carry is part of the grief of the world. Hold it gently. Let it be honored. You do not have to keep it in anymore. You can let go into the heart of compassion; you can weep. Releasing the grief we carry is a long, tear-filled process. Yet it follows the natural intelligence of the body and heart. Trust it, trust the unfolding. Along with meditation, some of your grief will want to be written, to be cried out, to be sung, to be danced. Let the timeless wisdom within you carry you through grief to an open heart.

Can a Dog Win an Oscar?

HappytailsspaawardsI love it! What a wonderful way to celebrate your furry friend. Dogs have been a part of the entertainment industry just as long as people, yet don't receive the recognition they deserve. When was the last time a dog accepted an Oscar? Lorna Paxton of Happy Tails Spa, has created the Canine Celebrity Awards to fill in this critical void.

Submit a photo or video of your own Celebrity Dog along with a short essay on why your dog deserves to win, and next year you could be watching in person from the red carpet in Hollywood… or Honolulu… the Virgin Islands or any one of 28 World- Class destinations. There will be three winners, whose owners will each receive a vacation package valued at over $1,000. Go to www.happytailsspa.com to enter. Good luck!! read more
